IITS administers and provides storage, backup and file recovery services for SMU central servers and system clusters.
eduroam
eduroam stands for "education Roaming", is the secured, world-wide roaming wireless Internet access service developed for the International education community.
eLearn and Tools
eLearn is an integrated suite of web-based tools that can be used to supplement in-class teaching. By design, every official course offered in SMU will have a course shell on eLearn that comes with automated enrolment updates.
SMU provides email accounts and email services to all authorised users of the University to improve communications and administrative efficiency. All current SMU faculty, staff, students, affiliates and alumni will be assigned an official SMU email address and account. SMU recognised departments and groups including student groups with specific needs for generic or departmental mailing addresses may also apply for such a department or group email account.
Event Management System
EMS supports the needs of schools and departments in organizing internal and external events. The system allows event administrators to manage event registrations, take attendance and retrieve contact lists for analysis and marketing purposes.
Facilities Booking System
FBS allows the SMU community to book designated facilities (including meeting rooms, classrooms, seminar rooms, sports hall) online.
Integrated Student Info System
ISIS is a suite of solutions that automates and supports the University's end-to-end student administrative processes, from admissions, records and overseas / local exchange records to student financials, financial aid, degree audit and graduation management.
Itunes U
iTunes U is a service provided by Apple which provides access to publicly downloadable material (audio and video) provided by insititutes of higher learning.
Learning Space Technologies
This IITS service will include the installation, maintenance, support and the continous improvement of teaching facilities in the classrooms and educational spaces within SMU.
Lecture Capture Support
Instructors can use this tool to capture lesson materials inside or outside class. Recordings are indexed and packaged into small files for ease of delivery to mobile devices. Students can then watch or listen to these lesson materials from their smart phones, tablets and PC's.
Library Systems
The Library suite of services allows the SMU community and public to access both hardcopy and online resources to support and enhance their research, teaching and learning activities. IITS also supports the operations of Library, from acquisitions, circulation to cataloging of the various research resources.
LION - Learners Interactive Open Network
The LION suite of services is a tool also known as the Peer Learning Platform. The Peer Learners Platform allows for the cross-class/cross-courses sharing and exchange, and includes a knowledge base to capture course related Questions, Answers and Resources for multi-terms' references. The tool also supports a voting mechanism for Questions & Answers, as well as generate input statistics to highlight Top Contributors, Most Viewed Materials and Top Questions for Courses in order to enhance in-class learning.
Notebook and Macbook Tender
Each year, IITS will invite and secure an attractive PC and notebook tender that comes with the latest CPU configurations for purchase by eligible users of the SMU community. Each PC or notebook will come pre-loaded with software such as Microsoft Office Suite and anti-virus software.
Online Test and Exams
IITS provides Onsite Support services for Tests or Exams conducted via eLearn, and other controlled browsers.
Printing
IITS connects SMU users to appropriate shared printing resources in the campus through IITS’s Print Queue Services. Staff Printing
Research Management Systems
The Research Management Systems support the research administrators from schools, institutes, centres and offices (e.g. the Office of Research, Library) to manage research-related activities, such as grants and publications. The users can also utilize the services to track and report research-related data.
Security, Data Protection and Access Control
Securing and protecting SMU’s networks, servers, information assets and users from increasingly sophisticated internal and external threats are of paramount importance. IITS undertakes preemptive measures and tasks as part of the overall IT security services and vulnerability management in order to ensure that our IT environment may be secured.
SMU Network Services with Internet access
This service by IITS aims to provide the school with campus-wide high-speed wired and wireless networks in SMU, to allow members of the SMU community access to both Intranet and Internet services.
SMU UserID and Account
The SMU NetID (or commonly known as SMU Login ID) is an active directory for all SMU faculty, staff, students and affiliates to connect to the University networks and access University IT resources. Each individual account is used for the purposes of user network authentication, and as a single sign-on in order to gain access to SMU IT resources, systems, applications and services (e.g. Email and Intranet etc.)
Software Acquisition and Support
IITS facilitates the acquisition, licensing and installation of software centrally for the SMU community to support research, teaching, learning and administration processes within SMU. This service would include two categories of software, namely an SMU-licensed standard suite of software, and a non-standard suite of software.
Student Career Services Management
OnTRAC II is an externally hosted career services management system that automates and supports the management of student internships, community services, workshops and jobs. OnTRAC II also enhances how information is shared and processed within the University, as well as between students and employers.
Student Course Bidding Online System
BOSS is the system employed in SMU for the registration of courses every term. BOSS empowers students with the choice of selecting courses for their own curriculum through a bidding system, which uses two types of currency known as e-dollars (e$) and e-points (e-pts).
Student Course Evaluation System
The Course Evaluation System is a tool which automates and supports the student evaluation of teaching for all courses that are offered.
Student Employment System
The Student Employment System (SES) is a user-friendly, hassle-free system providing both employers and SMU undergraduates with a platform to facilitate part-time recruitment/employment online. With this system, students can effectively seek part-time or temporary job opportunities, while employers are provided with a platform to put up job openings for recruitment purposes.
Student Hostel IT Services
IITS provides high-speed wired and wireless network access to the Internet and SMU Intranet to our SMU users within the SMU Residences @ Prinsep. On-site IT services and support are also extended to these users during Helpdesk office hours.
Student Life Management System
SLiMS is a tool which automates and supports the management of co-curricular activities (CCA) clubs, activities, events, external participation and awards.
Student Portal
The Online Access to Student Information System (also known as OASIS) is an intranet portal that provides a one-stop and seamless access to information and e-services for students.
Survey Tool
Qualtrics is an externally hosted online survey tool that supports the SMU community in managing surveys to meet their research and academic needs.
Technology Help Centre
The Technology Help Centre or IT Helpdesk is the first level of contact for all SMU users for any IT-related services / requests provided by IITS. Located at the Concourse Level under the School of Accountancy and School of Law, the IT Help Centre agents are dedicated to servicing our users via phone, email or walk-in.
Wiki Collaborative Platform
MediaWiki is the wiki platform offered in SMU. Instructor can request for a new Wiki space for a course in each school term. Instructor and students can both write and update in this collaborative space with a mark-up language.
