  3. SMU Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for SMU e-services

What are the 2FA methods?

Staff have the option to select one of the four 2FA methods listed below. The recommended method is Text message (SMS).

2FA Method Remarks
Phone Call

You will need to provide the phone number that the 2FA System will call for the 2FA.

Note the call is made from a foreign number. Answer and press '#' to authenticate.

Text message (SMS)

You will need to provide the phone number that you will use to receive the SMS text message containing the one-time passcode.

Mobile app

You will need to install Azure/Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone. The Authenticator app is used by both Mobile app and OATH Token.

During 2FA sign-in, you will receive a push notification to request for ‘APPROVE’ or ‘DENY’.

You will need to install Azure/Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone. The Authenticator app is used by both Mobile app and OATH Token.

Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone and key in the verification code to sign in.

Note that this is a standalone software token generator and is the recommended method to use when you go overseas as this method does not require roaming service.
