Password Self-Service system

IITS offers a convenient self-help service for password reset and unlocking, catering to the needs of its staff, students, faculty, and alumni during lockout situations. This service ensures a prompt resumption of their work or studies. We have provided two options for self-help, please refer to the provided options below to reset or unlock your account.

 Option 1* "For Students, Staff and Faculty"

(NEW) Microsoft Self-Service Password reset (SSPR) and unlock system

Utilize the Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) system to regain access to your Email, iNET, and other SMU resources by either unlocking or resetting your SMU password. SSPR is a system that allows you to independently manage and recover your password without the need for IT Help Centre assistance.

  • This service is available for Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Staff and Faculty.
  • Functionalities that SSPR offers: Reset, or Unlock your SMU password.
  • Methods used to authenticate: Microsoft Authenticator App or personal email

Option 2 "For Alumni"

Online Password Reset Service

UNLOCK or RESET your SMU Password to access your Email, OASIS, Alumni Services, and other SMU resources using a valid  Singapore mobile number registered with SMU.

  • This service is available to Alumni.
  • Functionalities that the system offers: Reset, or Unlock your SMU password.
  • Methods used to authenticate: OTP via a valid Singapore mobile number registered with SMU.

IMPORTANT NOTE!

Steps to update your password!

After a password change, you will have to update ALL your devices (eg. Smartphone, Tablet, etc.) with this new password.

If you have forgotten your SMU  password, follow these steps to retrieve your credentials.

Who can use the SMU Online Password Reset Service?

This service is available to Active Matriculated Students and Alumni.

What will this service do?

This service will let you unlock and reset your SMU account password.

I am a Student, how can I update my mobile number in OASIS?

To update your mobile number, please follow the following step:

 

Step 1: Point your browser to https://oasis.smu.edu.sg -> Click on Finance & Admin Menu -> “Update Personal Info and Citizenship” under Certification & Personal Info Menu.

 

Step 2:  Under Supporting Functions, click on “Update/Confirm Personal data”

 

Step 3:

Confirm/Update Self-Service Personal Data (Select Mobile) -> Enter your mobile number

 

I am a Staff / Full time Faculty, how can I update my mobile number in iNet?

To update your mobile number, please follow the following step:

Step 1 : Point your browser to inet.smu.edu.sg -> Top Applications -> SMU -> Profile icon

 

If you are unable to locate the Profile icon, please click , select the Profile icon and click on "Return to Home"

 

Step 2 : Under Communications -> select Mobile Number 1 -> (Click on the pencil icon)


Step 3 : (Update Number) -> Click on Save and Back

I am a Alumni, how can I update my mobile number?

Step 1 Point your browser to https://www.hexagon.smu.edu.sg/app/community/profile and login with your SMU ID

Step 2 Scroll down to “Contact Details” section and click on “Edit” button,

Step 3 Update the Mobile Number and click “Save all” button,

Update of personal particular would take a few working day for the mobile number to be reflect in the system, for further assistance please kindly contact Office of Alumni Relations : alumni@smu.edu.sg

What do I need to use the service?

You have access to any of the following browsers:


- Microsoft Edge (Chromium), Firefox version 105 and above (for Microsoft Windows)
- Apple Safari version 16.x (for Apple OSX)
- iOS version 15 (for Apple iPhone/iPAD)
- You must have a valid Singapore Telco registered mobile number in OASIS (for student) or iNet(for Faculty/Staff)
- Your account is not disabled or has expired

Can I reset my password when I am overseas?

Yes you can, but you must have a Singapore Telco(eg. Singtel, Starhub , M1, etc) registered mobile number with roaming services enabled as the new password will be SMS to your mobile phone.

Can I change my password to my preference after a successful reset?

Please change your one time password (sent via SMS) immediately at https://live.smu.edu.sg/manage.aspx

How long will it take for the SMS message to arrive?

Depending on your mobile network operator, the maximum waiting time should not be more than 4 minutes.

Can the service be used if account is disabled or has expired (eg: contract staff)?

No. Please contact IT Help Centre at +65 6828 0123 for assistance.

Is this a 24 x 7 service?

Yes.

What is the difference between this service and reset via IT Help Centre?

The service is the same. However, the online service offers a faster turnaround time and is available round the clock.

Can I unlock my account without resetting the password?

Yes, if your account is locked. the service would first unlock your account before prompting you an option to reset your password.

Is this service secure?

Yes. The service uses the Secure Socket Layer protocol to secure and protect the information you send online.

How do I register for this service?

Please click here to perform a one-time registration.

How often can I reset my password via this online service?

You can reset your password 10 times within 24 hours.

Is the secret answer case-sensitive?

No, it is not case-sensitive.

My network connection was disconnected in during registration, can I try again?

Yes, you can perform the registration again.

I did not receive the One Time Password ( OTP) SMS after 4 minutes, what should I do?

Try restarting your mobile phone and click on the "Resend-OTP" button

Can I register for this service if I have forgotten my password?

No, Please contact IT Help Centre at +65 6828 0123 for assistance.

How do I know if my password change is successful?

A successful notification screen will appear and your new password will be SMS to you upon a successful transaction. Please approach IT Help Centre at +65 6828 0123 if you did not receive your new password.

What are the password requirements?

Your password must meet all of the following conditions:

  1. Your password is valid for 180 days after which you would need to change the password before it expires.
  2. Should not be related or be based on the user's account name.
  3. Contain "characters" from the following categories:
    • Uppercase alphabet characters (A-Z)
    • Lowercase alphabet characters (a-z)
    • Arabic numerals (0 - 9)
    • Contain twelve (12) characters or more.
  4. You cannot reuse any of your previous SMU passwords.
